Mobile Sauna Invented

Mobile Sauna Invented

By Uri Stolpovitz

After a hard day at work, Russians love nothing better than to jump into a sauna (or banya) and have a good old gossip. It’s almost part of the culture amongst both friends and family, however, up until now, not everyone could afford one. For those individuals who don’t have millions of rubles at their disposal, there may now be an answer.

Siberian inventor Igor Chupin has converted a military truck into a mobile sauna, and for a mere 1000 roubles ($42.37) per hour you can get all hot and sweaty to your heart’s content. The 400 litre water tank is heated by a wood burning stove, but apparently you have to provide your own birch twigs.

Igor reckons his truck can get pretty much anywhere so no-one need miss out. Saunas are known to be beneficial for medical ailments such as asthma, arthritis and bronchitis. They are proven to reduce stress and they also are purported to increase testosterone levels in men. Sceptics would claim that’s because they are often full of naked women, however, in countries such as Finland, saunas are not seen as a place associated with sex or sexuality. Historically they were the most sacred place after the church and a place to cleanse the mind and body.
