Better Than Sliced Bread... Print-out Food
In 2005, restaurant owner and inventor, Homaro Cantu, caused a stir in the culinary world with his customised Canon i560. Cantu had modified a fairly bog standard printer - exactly how he wouldn't disclose - to enable him to print out flavoured paper. Since then, Cantu's world renowned restaurant, Moto, has been reaping the rewards of his innovative designs.
The basic premise is pretty simple. Instead of ink, printer cartridges are filled with fruit and vegetable juices, and ordinary printer paper is replaced with sheets of soybean and potato starch. At Moto, sushi is served one dimension short of the standard three and the menu can be nibbled as an appetiser.
Better than sliced bread because:
Are you kidding? This is an end to vacuum packing. Forget microwave meals, just print me out some sushi!
Roll-off-the-tongue factor:
Best thing since print-out food... it doesn't quite cut it does it?
Innovation rating:
It's brilliant, but to be honest, I can see the novelty of 2D sandwiches wearing off pretty quickly. And if I really want edible paper I can just get a coconut macaroon.
SCORE: 4/10
