It turns out there are even more unlikely publications than The Journal of Unlikely Science.
Every Thursday, our very own Dr Steer turns his attention to another weird science journal.

This week: WEED BIOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT

Name – As a bit of a weed myself I'm not sure I like the implications that I need to be managed. Although I suppose if I the research can lead to the bigger boys not being allowed to put me in the bin anymore then it can't be too bad a thing
Click to enlarge Front cover – Aggh! What is this? Some kind of nasty brown/beige, sick-in-a-bag, seventies throwback travesty. Oooh, it makes me want to hit stuff, but not very hard just in case I hurt myself.
Off-the-wallness – This journal is published on behalf of the Weed Science Society of Japan. Need I say more?
Usefulness – I've been misled. Evidently it's not weeds as in 'men with less than the average bicep' weeds, but weeds as in 'but Mum I hate gardening' weeds. How disappointing, looks like I'm not going to avoid that half-nelson after all.
Impressiveness – Article title: "Effects of pyruvate and sucrose on acetolactate synthase activity in Lindernia species and Schoenoplectus juncoides in an in vivo assay". Aaaah, run, head for the hills. It's the bigger boys with their big words.
             -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall A sadly wimpish score for the managing of weeds. It must be catching.

Impact factor: Nothing that you would notice.
