Phunny Phobias
If you met someone who was afraid of paper or wax statues, wouldn't you tell them to stop being so ridiculous and get over it? Every Monday, Null editor Hayley hand-picks another bizarre phobia and tries to work out whether it's real or rubbish.
This week:
Cyberphobia: fear of computers or working on computers
What's so scary about it?
Fear of computers? I think we can all empathise with that. Think about it - your PC sits quietly and smugly on your desk, in charge of every bit of information anyone would ever need to ruin your life. Contained within is enough evidence to lose you your job/trigger relationship meltdown/alienate you from your family and friends/create a smear campaign about you. It's a silent menace waiting to strike. I for one am terrified of mine.
What do the scientists say about it?
Experts claim cyberphobia results from 'resistance to change', which figures. We've all been confronted by those who refuse to embrace email, insist on interrogating the staff at the local library instead of Google and just can't abide the acronym "LOL". Bless 'em, they're just scared.
Hayley says:
"I don't think there's any doubt. Real."
