Phunny Phobias
If you met someone who was afraid of paper or wax statues, wouldn't you tell them to stop being so ridiculous and get over it? Every Monday, Null editor Hayley hand-picks another bizarre phobia and tries to work out whether it's real or rubbish.
This week:
Hypengyophobia: fear of responsibility
What's so scary about it?
Now this an easy one. Students - imagine what happens when you leave uni, move into your own house, stop taking your washing home on weekends and finding food in places other than your parents' cupboards. It's hard, and very, very scary.
What do the scientists say about it?
As often happens in Phunny Phobias, the scientists remain silent on the issue. I think this is possibly one for the financial advisors as the only reference I came across to hypengyophobia was in some kind of financial self help leaflet entitled Understanding Your Financial Fears.
Hayley says:
"A tough one. It exists but then surely we're all prone to a little hypengyophobia from time to time. So is it really irrational? Rubbish... no real... argh, no rubbish... I can't decide."
So far: Real 6½ Rubbish 7½
