Phunny Phobias
If you met someone who was afraid of paper or wax statues, wouldn't you tell them to stop being so ridiculous and get over it? Every Monday, Null editor Hayley hand-picks another bizarre phobia and tries to work out whether it's real or rubbish.
This week:
Bambakophobia: fear of cotton wool
What's so scary about it?
According to phobes on an online support group, it causes nausea and shivers. Talking to BBC Lincolnshire, one bambakophobe claimed that even the thought of the white stuff makes her break out in a cold sweat. And the "squeak" emitted when a lump of cotton wool is torn, is, apparently, unbearable.
What do the scientists say about it?
Oh, what a surprise. Not a word.
Hayley says:
"Thanks to Mhairhi Burton from our Facebook group for drawing my attention to this one. How can I argue with the Null's own readers? Real."
