Pirate Police get Lucky... and Flo Pirate Police get Lucky... and Flo

By Hannah Isom

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has unveiled its secret weapon in the war on movie piracy, a pair of Labrador Retriever sniffer dogs called Lucky and Flo.

These talented pooches have been trained to sniff out DVDs in luggage or containers and prevent the pirates getting the discs to manufacturing plants where they could be reproduced.

The MPAA speaks out on behalf of the major US movie studios, who claim that the illegal copying of films and television shows cost them more than $6.1 billion in lost revenues in 2005. These kind of losses will no doubt be a huge blow to an industry with already small budgets and actors such as Tom Cruise who are barely scraping a living on minimum wage.

So it's puppy power to the rescue! Lucky and Flo will embark on a world tour before beginning their new job, taking in the sights and smells of Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK, Dubai and of course Hollywood. It is thought that some films will be easier to detect than others, particularly those widely described by movie critics as "real stinkers".
