Fortunately no one has ever been known to have drowned from going swimming after a heavy meal. Now this might be because of all the very strict mums out there or it might just be because having a sandwich and jumping in a swimming pool just isn’t going to kill you. It’s hard to accept but our parents have been lying to us.
It is true that doing vigorous exercise on a full stomach can lead to cramps as oxygen is diverted to the digestive system – but who feels like running a marathon after a big pub lunch anyway? Generally the chances of getting a cramp whatever kind of exercise you are doing are pretty small, anything except a big meal isn’t going to do you any harm anyway, and you would have to be doing some pretty hard core working out to feel any effect.
The scientific facts are that this myth is part of a conspiracy whereby parents prevent their children from having fun. The government are in full support of this so it is up to us to spread the message – they cannot suppress the truth of science.
