Canvey Island Monster

By Nicola Currie

An artist's impression of the Canvey Island Monster that can boast as much accuracy as a blind archer who's been at the funny fungi all day.
In August and November 1954, two corpses of an unidentifiable species washed ashore at Canvey Island, off the coast of Essex. Measuring between 2.4 and 4 feet high, the creatures were said to have protruding eyes, gills, long legs with five toes and the pinkish brown skin of a pig.

Zoologists admitted that they had never seen anything like it, before strangely cremating the bodies. Destroying the evidence? Smells fishy to me.

Last seen: 1954, Canvey Island

Most likely to be: An angler fish (image)
