Offshore Banks
Whilst these days the term offshore bank can mean to virtually any foreign bank from Switzerland to the Cayman Islands, it originally referred to banks situated on the Channel Islands.
There are now 27 main offshore financial centres where the rich and the unscrupulous can enjoy a multitude of benefits including strong confidentiality, no taxation and lax legal restrictions. Being as this is so, offshore banks have been long associated with organized crime, terrorist organisations and all manner of other nefarious activities.
