Pop-up Penis Posters
Posters are usually designed to be eye-catching, thought provoking or educational. Well in 1992, Jim Knowlton achieved a full house and huge notoriety with his classic anatomy poster "Penises of the Animal Kingdom".
Knowlton, who is known within the art world as the modern Renaissance man, remarked in his acceptance speech "On behalf of art, on behalf of science, and on behalf of the members of the animal kingdom, I thank you.”
In addition to the artist’s award, the US National Endowment for the Arts was jointly honoured for "encouraging Mr. Knowlton to extend his work in the form of a pop-up book."
God only knows what would have been springing out of the pages and, most worryingly of all, would the aforementioned members have been to scale? Call it penis envy, call it embarrassment, call it willful suspension of disbelief, but there are certain things that should probably go unseen, tapir genitalia being one of them.
We couldn't find a picture of the prize-wining poster, but if you happen to have one lying around anywhere, do let us know.
